Wave Chief Scientist to Speak on Security and Legal Implications of Storing and Managing Electronic Records at MER and ABA Electronic Discovery Conferences

Dr. Robert Thibadeau Joins Keynote Panel, Town Hall Session and More to Share Expertise on the Impact of Game-Changing Electronic Data Technologies

Lee, MA May 17, 2010 — Wave Systems Corp. (NASDAQ:WAVX www.wave.com) today announced that Chief Scientist Robert Thibadeau, PhD, will speak at the National Conference on Managing Electronic Records (MER 2010), as well as the American Bar Association’s First Annual Electronic Discovery and Digital Evidence Practitioners’ Workshop. Both conferences take place in Chicago, IL, this week.

Dr. Thibadeau will address new technology that is changing the industry’s approach to storing and managing data and electronic records. His speaking sessions will cover security and storage advancements, such as self-encrypting drives, and the importance of allowing only known machines on a network. He will explore the impact of legal regulations, and discuss how the growth of virtual machines impacts both security strategies and compliance.

"We’ve seen a significant shift as organizations now store almost all of their data and records electronically; however the advancement of technology has also introduced new challenges for securing and managing that digital information, and it’s imperative to proactively address the legal implications introduced by their adoption," said Dr. Thibadeau. The National Conference on Managing Electronic Records (MER ’10)

MER is focused exclusively on addressing the key operational, technical and legal issues associated with the lifecycle management of electronic records. The conference will be held at the Westin Hotel on the "Magnificent Mile" in Chicago, May 17 to 19.

Dr. Thibadeau will participate on the Keynote Panel and the Town Hall session, discussing how self-encrypting drives are changing the nature of electronic record storage, particularly for those records that reside directly in the hands of employees and customers on individual computers. Thibadeau will also discuss why every machine on a network must be a known, trusted machine, and will introduce secure techniques for preventing them—as well as virtual machines—from being spoofed.

Town Hall: "The Future of RIM As We Know It"

Abstract: Technologies, such as cloud computing and social networking, soon will radically change the conventional view of information and how it is managed. The American Bar Association has introduced this new, one-of-a-kind practitioner’s workshop to provide hands-on education for in-house and retained counsel involved (or expecting to become) in litigation involving electronic discovery and digital evidence. Executives and other litigation stakeholders also attend to gain insights on how best to prepare technical staff and information systems to respond to requests for electronically stored information (ESI). The event takes place May 19-20, 2010 at the Chicago-Kent College of Law.

Panel: "Emerging Technologies—Real Technology Addressing Real Problems"

Abstract: ESI Discovery technologies are rapidly emerging and the sector is commoditizing, resulting in substantial cost reductions and smaller resourcing overhead.
