Wave RSA Highlights Include Support for Common Access Cards, Latest Opal-based Self-Encrypting Drives, BitLocker Management and More

(NASDAQ:WAVX www.wave.com) announced today that PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) International Limited’s Karl Wagner will headline a Monday seminar sponsored by the Trusted Computing Group, kicking off an active week for the company at RSA Conference 2011, Feb. 14-18, at San Francisco’s Moscone Center. Wave is involved in a range of activities, including advanced product demonstrations, customer videos and participation in a panel presentation on data breach laws and encryption that includes Wave’s Chief Scientist Dr. Robert Thibadeau.
On Monday, PwC’s Wagner will discuss how the global auditing, tax and advisory firm is addressing authentication for its global employee base using Wave software and Trusted Platform Module (TPM) security chips. The TPM, a cryptographic integrated circuit, provides a hardware-based root of trust directly embedded in today’s business-class PCs, which offers hardware-level protection for user certificates. Fellow Wave customer Dendreon, a Seattle-based pharmaceutical firm, will also participate in Monday’s seminar. Jeff Kam, CITAM, IT Asset Manager, will discuss Dendreon’s use of self-encrypting hard drives managed by Wave to secure confidential company data and intellectual property. Self-encrypting drives now offer increased security and independent processing power that can provide better performance over existing software-based encryption solutions.
Support for Common Access Cards Among New Enhancements in Wave Software
In addition to customer presentations during Monday’s TCG seminar, Wave has been invited to present in the event’s “Opal Showcase” to demonstrate advanced features to its flagship EMBASSY Remote Administration Server (ERAS) software that include built-in support for the Common Access Card (CAC). CAC is a U.S. Department of Defense smart card issued as standard identification for active-duty military personnel, reserves, civilian employees, non-DoD government employees and contractors. It enables the signing of email, encryption and the use of public key infrastructure (PKI) authentication tools.
Integrating CAC support into ERAS distinguishes Wave as the only ISV to offer support for all Opal-based self-encrypting drives, TPMs, Bitlocker and software-based encryption for legacy platforms. Also at the seminar, Wave will demonstrate the vulnerability of private keys (used for VPN authentication, for instance) on most PCs. Using easily downloadable shareware, Wave will show how keys can be exported in just minutes, seriously compromising data security. But by turning on and managing the TPM (managed by Wave’s client and server software) those keys can be protected in hardware. The company will also show these demonstrations at its booth (#939) in the expo hall.
Wednesday & Thursday Highlights: Panel, Book Focus on Data Breach Laws and Encryption
On Wednesday, Thibadeau will join fellow authors and Lucy Thomson of CSC, a former federal prosecutor who served as Editor, for a book signing of the American Bar Association’s Data Breach and Encryption Handbook. The event takes place on Wednesday, Feb. 16, at the Thirsty Bear restaurant, half a block from the Moscone Center.
The next day, the authors take the stage at RSA for a panel exploring the issues raised by the book.
Panel: “Untangling the Web of State and Federal Data Breach Laws,” moderated by Lucy Thomson, Senior Principal Engineer, Information Security CSC. The panel features Wave’s Dr. Robert Thibadeau, Chief Scientist and Sr. VP; Demetrios Eleftheriou, Sr. Privacy Counsel, EMC Corporation; Thomas Smedinghoff, Partner, Wildman, Harrold, Allen and Dixon LLP; and Eric Hibbard, Chief Technology Officer, Security and Privacy, Hitachi Data Systems.
What: To address the problem of escalating data breaches, nearly all states have passed data breach laws, and the Federal HITECH act covers health records. Analyzing massive data breaches as case studies, the ABA’s legal and encryption experts sort out the complexities and ambiguities that result in uncertainties for global business and health providers. The panel examines both the legal and technical aspects of encryption.
