Wave to Demonstrate Strong Wireless Network and VPN Security using Intel® vPro™ Technology at IDF
Wave’s EMBASSY Software, in Tandem with the Integrated Trusted Platform Module on Intel®’s vPro™ Platform, Enables Hardware-based Secure Local and Network Access Control
Lee, MA & San Francisco, CA (Intel Developers Forum, Pro Zone, Booth #737) — August 18, 2008 — Wave Systems Corp. (NASDAQ: WAVX; www.wave.com ) will demonstrate how enterprises can strengthen and simplify their existing wireless and virtual private network (VPN) security by harnessing the built-in technology on platforms featuring Intel® vPro™ technology. This demonstration will illustrate how enterprises can reduce expenses relating to tokens, smart cards or complex authentication schemes by deploying PC platforms with Intel® vPro™ technology in combination with Wave’s EMBASSY® software.
Platforms with Intel® vPro™ technology come with an integrated, industry standard security capability called Trusted Platform Module (TPM), which acts as a tamper-resistant storage vault for user credentials. Working in tandem, Intel® vPro™ platform and EMBASSY® software are designed to enable enterprises to significantly improve wireless and VPN security and reduce overhead expenses by using these secure credentials to strengthen access control at both the local and network level. Similar to tokens and smart cards, the built-in TPM protects digital certificates by securing the user’s private cryptographic keys within the chipset hardware. This functionality is designed to be used in place of external tokens or smart cards and can improve the user access control process.
“Intel® vPro™ technology with Wave’s EMBASSY® software offers enterprises a more effective way to institute a hardware-based ‘trust’ model for access control and data-at rest,” said Brian Berger, Wave’s executive vice president of marketing and sales. “For enterprises using platforms with Intel® vPro technology, Wave provides a simple-to-deploy solution for improving, and reducing the expense of, client management of their wireless and VPN security. This solution is scalable, regardless of the number of users managed.”
“One of the unique aspects of Intel® vPro™ technology is that it offers native support for hardware-based access control using integrated TPM. Enterprises using software-based certificates can significantly strengthen access control for VPN or wireless security by deploying platforms with Intel® vPro™ technology,” said Tom Quillin, Director Client Ecosystem Development, Intel Corporation. “As a result of hardware storage of certificates, enterprises can ensure that only trusted machines are allowed on their networks, no longer having to worry about users sharing or losing network authentication information.”
Demonstrations will take place in booth #737 in the Pro Zone during the expo hours.
In addition to its presence in the Pro Zone at IDF, Wave Systems will also have its EMBASSY software on display for customers seeking to learn more about full disk encryption and data at rest security based on hardware FDE solutions from multiple vendors in various client and server-managed environments. These additional demonstrations will be held on the third floor of Moscone Center West, August 19-21. For demonstration and meeting appointments, contact Wave’s executive vice president Lark Allen at lallen@wavesys.com. For media inquiries or to schedule briefings at IDF, please contact Dave Bowker or Tiffany Archambault at wavesystems@schwartz-pr.com.
About Wave Systems Corp.
Wave provides software to help solve critical enterprise PC security challenges such as strong authentication, data protection, network access control and the management of these enterprise functions. Wave is a pioneer in hardware-based PC security and a founding member of the Trusted Computing Group (TCG), a consortium of more than 100 companies that forged open standards for hardware security. Wave’s EMBASSY® line of client- and server-side software leverages and manages the security functions of the TCG’s industry standard hardware security chip, the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) and supports the TCG’s “Opal” self-encrypting drive standard. Self-encrypting drives are a growing segment of the data protection market, offering increased security and better performance than many existing software-based encryption solutions. TPMs are included on an estimated 300 million PCs and are standard equipment on many enterprise-class PCs shipping today. Using TPMs and Wave software, enterprises can substantially and cost-effectively strengthen their current security solutions.
